SLOW

Slow (original title)

A film by Sascha Seifert

Underneath bushes and hedges, along alleys and fields, in the woods and on meadows, they roam around peacefully, in beauty, with dignity. Unimpressed by the speed of life around them. Always careful but also constantly ready for stunts beyond human sense of gravity. They glide, they climb, they dive, they enjoy. A meditative journey into the mystical world of those marvelous creatures popularly known - but yet ignored far too often - as snails and a beautiful & cinematic walking meditation. Slow depicts quite fittingly the life of snails. A peaceful slow documentary about life in nature; the embodiment of slowness, far away from mechanical clocks which have caused so much trouble that we now have to create events like Slow Art Day to remind us that we’re moving too fast.

MAN VS TRASH

SUPER TRASH (original title)

A film by Martin Esposito

Martin returns his childhood place. He has now been buried by a huge open dump.

Martin decides to settle and live in this world of garbage, punctuated by the forth back and forth dances of trucks and bulldozers leveling and discharging waste. For days and months, Martin will mark his place in an unbearable universe seemingly driving to madness. He feeds himself with the trash. He bathes into the river each daily, like a step back to the primitive world. He looks after animals trapped in the hellhole, and surfs on giant wave generated by the trash. Nothing looking for exposure such pointing fingers at one other, Martin simply tries, in this film, a desperate effort to make a metaphor for our world, minus the guilt. Martin won’t accept this universe that has been imposed, he wants to appropriate it, ingest and digest.

This until the final and permanent closure of the dump, where he will save the last seagull from poisoning.

Three Letters from China

Three Letters from China

Watermarks (original title)

A film by Luc Schaedler

Based on three different places, the film portrays the infractions to which people living in modern day China are subjected due to rapid developments: in the deceptively idyllic Jiuxiancun in the rainy south; in the apocalyptic coal mining site of Minqin and Wusutu in the parched north; and in Chongqing, the megacity on the Yangtze River. The protagonists give their moving accounts of an unresolved past, an uncertain present and their tentative steps into the future. The film thus paints a complex image of the mental state of the people in this complicated country. “Watermarks” is a subjective snapshot in time that takes a poetic look at the changing everyday life in China.

Bye Bye Blue Sky

Bye Bye Blue Sky (original title)

A film by Patrick Pasin

For more than 20 years, people all over the world, first in the USA and Canada, have noticed strange persistent trails in the sky done by airplanes. In the meantime, people are more and more ill (multiple sclerosis, alzheimer, cancer, autism, etc. and new diseases like Morgellons appear). The situation is the same with the trees and the plants, and also animals. Is there a link? Are there in the sky illegal sprayings of metallic particles (barium, aluminum, lithium...) and virological agents which are responsible of it? For which purpose? By who?

The military, the scientists, the governments keep replying that everything is normal and they do not do such things. Is it so sure? This documentary proves the contrary. Some information it reveals has since even been deleted by a foreign army.

To answer these questions, many people have been interviewed: scientists, politicians, activists, pilot...

A travel from North America to Europe, from Africa to Asia. One thing is sure: now you will look at the sky!

Nuclear Nation

Nuclear Nation (original title)

A film by Atsushi Funahashi

A documentary about the exile of Futaba's residents, the region housing the crippled Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant.

The day after the magnitude 9.0 earthquake on March 11, 2011, Futaba locals heard the hydrogen explosion at Reactor Number 1 and were showered with nuclear fallout. In response, the Japanese government designated the whole town as an "exclusion zone" and 1,400 of the town's residents fled to an abandoned high school 250 kilometers away. The entire community, including the Town Hall office, was moved into the four-story building, making the residents nuclear refugees.

The film portrays the evacuees as the nuclear disaster situation changes over time.
