The Nature of things

La Natura delle Cose (original title)

A film by Laura Viezzoli

A journey through the human soul where the present merges with the past and the future

Laura Viezzoli met Angelo Santagostino for the first time in July 2013 when he was already seriously ill with ALS. A man trapped in his own body except his moving eyes, so intelligent, lively and eager to communicate. Letter by letter, time after time, with the fundamental help of the eye-pointer translating their movements, he sharpened and transmitted his thoughts to his loved ones. Up until June 2014, Angelo answered questions and allowed us an emotional immersion towards his own mortality.

In those precious moments, through a whole year of meetings and conversations between the young female filmmaker and the main protagonist, we explore the vibrant mobility of the brain with a hypnotic visual style.

Cheer up

Cheer Up (original title)

A film by Christy Garland

Cheer Up takes us into the teenage lives of a team of cheerleaders from the Arctic Circle in Finland, who always seem to place last.  They struggle to improve, and try their best to look perfect doing it, but really, teenage life can be tough for these girls. For Patricia, Aino and Miia, finding out who they are,  where they belong and what family means is much more important than any trophy.

Cheer Up is a universal story about teenagers. The film embraces the inner conflicts these young women face at such an important turning point in their lives - when relating to family, finding your own way, and fitting in with the crowd is not so easy. Win or lose, cheerleading for them is a second family (like dance, football and other hobbies) and an opportunity to learn about life, it’s pitfalls and success, sorrows and joy.

Cooking at World’s end

Cocinando en el fin del mundo (original title)

A film by Alberto Baamonde Bello

In 2003, nine young chefs joined their forces and their knowledge to transform the cuisine of their land: in Galicia, Grupo Nove was born.

Culinary revolution already emerged in other Spanish regions but Galicia remained known for its excellent products, not for its cooking techniques or for its chefs’ talent. Something had to change!

Along with a new generation of producers and farmers, the Grupo Nove developed an idea of gastronomy grounded in traditions, attached to the land and the product, though using radically new techniques.

Grupo Nove is now composed of twenty chefs, the veterans training the new generation. In a short period of time, Galicia multiplied its international recognition: 8 Michelin stars, 19 Repsol soles earned by names such as Pepe Solla, Xosé Cannas, Yayo Daporta, Beatriz Sotelo, Javier Olleros…

This is a silent revolution through gastronomy, between tradition and modernity, in a land full of contrasts.

PORNO & LIBERTA’

DCP - HD - 2015 - italy - 78 Min - Color / Black & White

PORNO & LIBERTA’

Porno & Libertà (original title)

A film by Carmine Amoroso

PORNO E LIBERTA' Porn to be free is the first documentary giving an insight on the Italian 70’s and tracing porn’s incredible genesis from the first magazines, photoshoots, censorship issues to its political and social repercussions — such as the election of Porn-star Ilona Staller (Cicciolina),  the first to become parliament’s member.

It also offers food for thought about the 70’s & 80’s periods, years of transformations in which, pornography became a tool of protest and liberation, a real language.

The documentary brings to light a wide range of exclusive materials and interviews – pornographers, porn stars, writers, intellectuals, philosophers and feminists, from Lasse Braun to Riccardo Schicchi, from Marco Pannella to Ilona Staller, from Helena Velena to Judith Malina – who recall and recount what deserves to be defined as the most important sexual revolution in decades.
