In the center of sprawling Mexico City, hidden amongst auto repair shops, mom and pop taco stands and shuttered night clubs, lies the historic Arena Mexico. These tireless performers have always been at the direct service of the people, putting their lives on the line every night in epic battles between good and evil, presented with an extraordinary level of style and grace only found in Mexico.

Shot over the course of four years with full access to Mexico’s biggest Lucha Libre promotions, this is the most complete, intimate look at the lives and work of modern Luchadores ever realized. Filmmakers Alex Hammond & Ian Markiewicz capture their colorful world through modern verite techniques, giving viewers an exciting cinematic look at the triumphs and struggles of a cast of fan-favorites. As the country fights back against crime, corruption and economic crisis, the innocent catharsis of Lucha Libre is more sought after than ever. The Black Power Mixtape: 1967-1975

The Black Power Mixtape (original title)

A film by Göran Hugo Olsson

The Black Power Mixtape is an archive- and music- driven documentary that examines the evolution of the Black Power Movement in the African-American community and Diaspora from 1967 to 1975. Combining startlingly fresh and meaningful 16mm footage that had been lying undiscovered in the cellar of Swedish Television for the past 30 years, with contemporary audio interviews from leading African-American artists, activists, musicians and scholars, Mixtape looks at the people, society, culture and style that fuelled a change. Utilizing an innovative format that riffs on the popular 70s mixtape format, the Black Power Mixtape is a cinematic and musical journey into the ghettos of America. At the end of the Sixties, Swedish interest in the US Civil Rights Movement and the US anti-war movement peaked. With a combination of commitment and naiveté, Swedish filmmakers traveled across the Atlantic to explore the Black Power Movement. Filmmaker Göran Hugo Olsson brings this newly discovered footage to light and introduces it to a new generation across the world in a penetrating examination – through the lens of Swedish filmmakers – of the Black Power Movement from 1967-1975, and its worldwide resonance.

MAN VS TRASH

SUPER TRASH (original title)

A film by Martin Esposito

Martin returns his childhood place. He has now been buried by a huge open dump.

Martin decides to settle and live in this world of garbage, punctuated by the forth back and forth dances of trucks and bulldozers leveling and discharging waste. For days and months, Martin will mark his place in an unbearable universe seemingly driving to madness. He feeds himself with the trash. He bathes into the river each daily, like a step back to the primitive world. He looks after animals trapped in the hellhole, and surfs on giant wave generated by the trash. Nothing looking for exposure such pointing fingers at one other, Martin simply tries, in this film, a desperate effort to make a metaphor for our world, minus the guilt. Martin won’t accept this universe that has been imposed, he wants to appropriate it, ingest and digest.

This until the final and permanent closure of the dump, where he will save the last seagull from poisoning.
